CIRCULATION & SERVICES

The library is well equipped to serve your study needs. Summit Pacific Library is a hybrid library, meaning that it provides patrons with hardcopy books as well as digital resources.

  • The library currently holds 66,000 plus catalogued physical bibliographic resources and about 550 electronic and 40 hardcopy periodical titles.

  • The library subscribes to EBSCOhost Religion & Philosophy Collection.This is an essential full-text database for theology and philosophy research. It includes hundreds of full-text journals and magazines covering many religious and philosophical topics, including world religions, religious history, political philosophy and philosophy of language. Content Includes:

    • Nearly 130 active full-text, non-open access journals and magazines;

    • More than 100 active full-text, non-open access peer-reviewed journals and magazines;

    • Full-text coverage dating back to 1911.

  • The library also subscribes to the EBSCOhost Atla Religion Database. The Atla Religion Database contains index records covering the research literature of religion in many languages. Indexed journals are selected for inclusion according to their scholarly merit and scope. Bibliographic records represent scholarship on major religions, faiths, denominations, and languages. More than 3 million records include:

    • More than 1 million review records

    • More than 460,000 book records

    • More than 280,000 essay records

  • There are 3400 digital theses and dissertations from TREN (Theological Research Exchange Network). These are accessible on the library’s Digital Media Server via the library web site (under Web Resources).

  • Available audiovisuals include CDs, DVDs, video tapes, transparencies, & microforms. CD, DVD and VCR players are available for in-library use.

BORROWING RESOURCES

When checking out bibliographic items, such as books, CDs, or DVDs, bring them to the circulation counter. If you do not have your Student ID Card, provide your last name. Please check out resources at least 20 minutes before the library closes.

  • Holds
    If the item’s status in the catalogue is ON SHELF, you may place a hold on it. Students can put a hold on up to 5 items. On Hold items must be picked up after notification via email within one week, otherwise these resources will be re-shelved or released to another patron’s use.

  • Reserves
    If the circulation item is ON LOAN, you may put a Reserve on it. You will be notified by email when the item has been returned and is ready to be taken out again.

LOAN PERIODS

  • Books
    Maximum of 7-days with 3 renewals – unless there is a hold on the resources. Maximum of 7 items at a time.

  • Textbook Reserve
    2 hour take out time. Can be used in the Library or removed but once the 2 hours is up either needs to be returned or checked out again

  • Reference Items
    In-Library use only

  • Special Collections and Rare books
    In-Library use only.

RETURNING RESOURCES

All electronically checked out resources are to be returned through the External Book Return slot to the left of the entrance to the library.

LIBRARY FINES

Except for late returns of resources placed on hold, no fines for library book & other resources will be charged.

At the end of the academic year and before any student leaves the Summit campus, any unreturned late resource will be charged against the student’s security deposit.

RENEWALS

Circulation resources that do not have holds placed upon them may be renewed three times. Borrowed books and non-books, such CDs, DVD, audio tapes, pamphlets and maps must be brought back to the Circulation Desk for renewal.

LIBRARY CATALOG

There are two ways of accessing the library catalogue:

  • From the Library Web Site

  • From within the Student Portal:

    • Login into your student account through the Summit Pacific College website.

    • From within the Portal, using the menu at the top right, choose Library-OPAC

  • Accessing the Library Catalog from within the Portal allows students to place items on hold under thier student account. It also provides access to the student's loan history, due dates, reserves and hold requests. Students can also create a list of desired items under My Book Shelf.

DATABASE

The library subscribes to the EBSCOhost Religion and Philosophy Database and the EBSCOhost Atla Religious Database. These are excellent resources for finding journal articles and research material to help develop and/or support your own research topic when writing papers or assignments.

Registered students will find log in information for Summit’s EBSCOhost account in the Summit Writing Guide. This is accessible to currently registered students from within the Student Portal or from within Canvas.

Individuals who wish to utilize Summit’s EBSCOhost subscription for their own research should contact the Librarian for information (librarian@summitpacific.ca).

The library currates and provides an extensive list of publicly accessible web sites and journals which students may find useful in research and preparation of papers and assignments

DIGITAL MEDIA SERVER

The library hosts a collection of digital theses and dissertations from TREN (Theological Research Exchange Network). These are accessible on the library’s Digital Media Server via the library web site (under Web Resources).

Access to this server is secured. Contact the Librarian for log in information (librarian@summitpacific.ca).

PHOTOCOPYING

Photocopying is available without a key or password. Payment for photocopying is made on an honor’s basis. Because no credit is given or IOUs accepted for copying, please be prepared to pay for the number of copies you make as soon as you have finished copying. 10 cents per single-sided copy and 15 cents per double-sided copy.
