ABOUT: FAQ

How many books can I take out at a time?

A total of 7 books can be taken out at a time.

How long can I have my book(s) out?

Once checked out, you have 7 days with your book(s) before they are due back at the Library. If you are not ready to return a book, and there is not a hold on it by another student, you are able to renew it up to 3 times. Each time you renew, you can have it out for another 7 days.

What do I do if I can’t find a book?

Please ask either the Librarian, Library Technician, or a student worker and they will be happy to assist!

Where can I print?

You can use any of the 4 student computers in the Library to print materials. Each single sided sheet is $0.10, and each double-sided page is $0.15. All payments must be made in cash. If needed, you can withdraw money from the Interact machine (debit only) at the Main Office. There is a minimum amount of $20 and a maximum amount of $40.

I am not a current student at Summit. Can I still check out a book?

Of course. Whether you are an alumnus or just wanting to check out materials we can make you a Hudson Library account.

What are Textbook Reserves?

Each semester, the Library has all “required texts” available to be loaned out for 2-hour periods. If you do not want to buy a textbook, you can utilize the Textbook Reserves. However, they are not guaranteed to be available on demand. After the 2-hour loan period has expired, you must bring the textbook back to the Library as another student could be waiting for it. If there is no additional request you can borrow it for another 2 hours.

In order to access Textbook Reserves, please come into the Library. Textbook Reserves are kept behind the counter and are available upon request.

Am I allowed to copy any of the Library materials?

The Hudson Library adheres to all Canadian copyright laws. If you are looking to copy a resource please contact the Librarian or one of the staff and they will help you through this process so there is no infringement on the copyright laws.

How do I find out about work positions at the Library

The Library offers 5 paid positions for current students. There will be an announcement in Rehder’s Digest whenever positions become available. Hiring generally happens at the beginning of the Fall Semester and sometimes at the beginning of the Spring Semester. Please contact the Librarian for more information or to inquire about any openings.
